Chelsea is reportedly targeting SL Benfica defender Antonio Silva in the ongoing January transfer window as a possible replacement for Thiago Silva.

There is still a lot of speculation surrounding the players that Mauricio Pochettino will look to sign during the January window, especially now that Thiago Silva is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

That has led to some rumors in the media which have claimed that CHELSEA tried to get a transfer deal done for Silva in the last few days of the Summer window, but failed to get a deal done.

The young Benfica defender has made 68 senior appearances for Benfica, registering six goals. He's a key player, making 24 appearances across competitions, talking Benfica to second in the Primeira Liga

According to El National t, renowned agent Jorge Mendes is trying to negotiate a deal between the two clubs for Silva and is eager for the lad to make the move to the Premier League giants.

Silva has been very impressive this season and it would be interesting to see if he could handle the pressure of playing for one of the big clubs in the Premier League.

And the fact that he would add depth to the squad for not a lot of money, it could be a great buy from that CHELSEA board and could be a player that adds some more quality to that Blues squad.

Many CHELSEA fans would like to see a striker make the move to the club in the coming weeks - but Silva would still be a good signing this transfer window or at the end of the season

COLE PALMER DELIGHTED -

Chelsea's Cole Palmer has revealed he planned to remain at boyhood club Manchester City but is happy that he joined Chelsea.

The 21-year-old completed a surprise £40m transfer from the Etihad Stadium to Stamford Bridge on Deadline Day last summer after the Blues made a surprise offer to get a transfer deal done.

Palmer has proved one of the signings of the season, instantly becoming a key player for Mauricio Pochettino and contributing eight goals and four assists in 16 Premier League appearances.

But he admits his permanent exit from City, where he only started three Premier League games having come through their youth academy, was not planned.

"My thing was to never leave City," he told Sky Sports' Patrick Davison ahead of CHELSEA's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Middlesbrough on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports.

"That was not my intention. I wanted to go on loan for a year, come back, and be ready for the first team.

"But they said I couldn't go on loan, either stay or you get sold.

"So then, Chelsea rang me. I said I wanted to go to Chelsea and I'm really happy to be here.

"I'm very glad I made the decision to come here."

I think that everybody was surprised to see that Palmer made the decision to leave Man City and join Chelsea - but it seems to be the right decision from the lad to make as he is really impressive.

Many CHELSEA fans had their doubts that he would be worth the money - but as we just said - he is really impressive in that Blues shirt and fully deserves all the praise that he has been getting.

BEACH DEAL ANNOUNCED -

Chelsea goalkeeper Eddie Beach will spend the remainder of the season on loan at National League side Gateshead.

As reported in the summer, Chelsea had a plan to keep Beach in and around the senior squad for the first part of the season and would then re-evaluate his options in the January transfer window. With the form of Djordje Petrovic, since Robert Sanchez picked up a knee injury, it has made it much more difficult for Beach to even get a sniff under Pochettino.

CHELSEA posted: 'Beach featured regularly for our Under-21s during the first half of the campaign - and was also on the substitutes' bench for our first team Premier League fixtures against Luton Town and Brentford.

'The 20-year-old joined the Blues from Southampton in the summer of 2023 and spent time on loan last season at National League South club Chelmsford City.

'Gateshead currently sit 8th in the National League, just a point outside the play-off positions.

'Good luck, Eddie!'

The lad is a serious talent who has the potential to become a very decent stopper in the future - but it was always going to be difficult to make it at Stamford Bridge as a Goalkeeper.

Gateshead may not be the move that he had hoped for - but it is a very good chance for him to get some much-needed minutes on the pitch and maybe impress a few clubs for the upcoming summer window.

The lad is happy - Gateshead is happy - this is a good move for the man to make.
